World Vitiligo Day 2026 Observed with Enthusiasm in Manipur
Theme: “From Stigma to Strength”
The Vitiligo Society of Manipur, in collaboration with the IADVL Manipur State Branch and Rainbow Kids Arcadia, observed World Vitiligo Day 2026 on Thursday, 25th June 2026, with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about vitiligo, promoting acceptance, and encouraging individuals living with the condition.
Early Morning Awareness Cycle Rally
The day’s events commenced with an Awareness Cycle Rally, symbolizing the journey from social stigma to empowerment. The rally was flagged off at 5:30 AM from the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Imphal, with enthusiastic participation from members of the Vitiligo Society of Manipur, dermatologists, healthcare professionals, supporters, and well-wishers.
Cyclists rode through the designated route up to Kongba Bazaar before returning to the Vitiligo Society Manipur, Skin Care, Deulahland, spreading the message of awareness and inclusion among the public. Participants proudly wore specially designed event T-shirts carrying the theme “From Stigma to Strength”, reflecting the spirit of resilience and hope.
At the conclusion of the rally, all participants were presented with participation medals as a token of appreciation for their support and commitment. Refreshments were also served, providing an opportunity for participants to interact and celebrate the success of the event.
Observation Function and Educational Session
The formal observation function began at 10:00 AM at the premises of the Vitiligo Society Manipur, Skin Care, Deulahland. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Karam Lokendro, along with members of the IADVL Manipur State Branch.
The session featured informative lectures highlighting various aspects of vitiligo, including its medical understanding, available treatment options, psychological impact, and the importance of eliminating misconceptions surrounding the condition. The programme also included an interactive session where participants shared their experiences, asked questions, and engaged in meaningful discussions with the attending dermatologists.
The gathering provided a valuable platform for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the community to come together in support of individuals living with vitiligo. The event reinforced the message that vitiligo is neither contagious nor life-threatening, and that those affected deserve acceptance, dignity, and equal opportunities in society.
The programme concluded with a fellowship lunch, allowing participants and organizers to strengthen their bonds and reaffirm their collective commitment towards creating a more informed and compassionate society.
A Message of Hope
This year’s theme, “From Stigma to Strength,” aptly captured the essence of the observance. Through awareness, education, and community engagement, the event sought to replace myths with knowledge and discrimination with empathy.
The Vitiligo Society of Manipur expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, volunteers, supporters, members of the IADVL Manipur State Branch, Rainbow Kids Arcadia, and everyone who contributed to making the observance a meaningful success.
Together, we continue to move from stigma to strength, building a society where every individual is valued for who they are.
